About
the Artist
My love of art took expression
later in my life and I have pursued it with zeal and enthusiasm.
I have completed various courses
in colour, design, mixed media and visual arts enabling me to use these
tools in my paintings. Attendance at many lectures at the N.S.W. Art Gallery
led me to a discovery of the fascinating lives and works of artists from the
Renaissance period through to Abstract Expressionism.
A love of Australian nature and bush walking has been a major source of
inspiration in my art. I have painted the fascinating shapes, contours and
hues of the magnificent angophoras and other trees found in and around
Sydney, particularly in the Garigal National Park. The beautiful rock and
landscape formations that abound in the Ku-ring-gai National Park have been
a wonderful backdrop for various paintings. Concentrating on light and
movement outdoors also availed me to capture moments in time
and in flight.
In addition to my relationship with flora and fauna, I have been captivated
by water and movement which I have portrayed in a minimalist style as an
alternative approach to the subject matter. The works were fun to do but
also attempt to convey the deeper value we need to place on this vital
commodity. With my on going interest in water and movement I was
led to the capturing of birds in flight. Digital images taken with a
powerful camera helped me capture motion in mille-seconds allowing me to
produce motion unseen by the naked eye. Concentrating on light and movement
outdoors also availed me to capture moments in time
and in flight.
I have successfully exhibited my works in a number of group shows,
principally around Sydney.
